What is Selank?

A seven-residue synthetic peptide built from tuftsin, a naturally occurring immune tetrapeptide, with a three-residue extension added to slow enzymatic degradation. Tuftsin itself is a fragment of immunoglobulin G, so Selank is a stabilised derivative of a human immune peptide rather than a wholly novel sequence.

Regulatory status, stated plainly

Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow and is registered as a medicine in Russia. It holds no marketing authorisation in the UK, the European Union or the United States.

One further point buyers should have: Selank is centrally active. Whether a centrally active peptide falls within the scope of the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 is a question we have not seen authoritatively settled either way, and it sits alongside the medicines position rather than replacing it. We state this because it is material, not because it resolves anything.

Selank and Semax

The two are frequently mentioned together and are unrelated sequences. Selank derives from tuftsin, an immune peptide. Semax derives from ACTH(4-10), a fragment of a pituitary hormone. Both are Russian-developed heptapeptides and both are centrally active, which is where the resemblance ends.

How is it reconstituted?

Allow the sealed vial to reach room temperature before breaking the seal, which prevents condensation drawing moisture into the cake. Add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall rather than directly onto the powder, then swirl gently until clear. Do not shake: agitation shears peptide chains. The volume added sets the working concentration, so calculate it before opening anything.
