What is Semax?

The first four residues correspond to ACTH(4-7), a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail added to resist enzymatic breakdown. That construction is the interesting part: the parent hormone drives cortisol release from the adrenal cortex, but the 4-10 fragment lacks the region responsible for that endocrine activity. Semax is therefore studied as a way of separating the fragment's properties from the parent hormone's hormonal effects.

Regulatory status, stated plainly

Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow and registered as a medicine in Russia. No marketing authorisation in the UK, the European Union or the United States.

Semax is centrally active. Whether that brings a peptide within scope of the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 is a question we have not seen settled authoritatively either way. It sits alongside the medicines position rather than replacing it, and we state it because it is material.

Semax and Selank

Different sequences with a shared origin story. Semax comes from ACTH(4-10), a pituitary hormone fragment. Selank comes from tuftsin, an immunoglobulin fragment. Both Russian-developed heptapeptides, both centrally active, otherwise unrelated.

Price per milligram

This vial is £34.99 for 10 mg, which is £3.50 per milligram. Comparing suppliers on price per milligram rather than headline price is the only like-for-like comparison, because vial strengths are not standardised across this market.

Does it come with a certificate of analysis?

Supplied with a batch-specific certificate of analysis stating the batch reference, identity confirmation, chromatographic purity against specification, and the analytical method used. Purity by reverse-phase HPLC with mass spectrometric identity confirmation, and the certificate names the laboratory that performed the work.

How is it reconstituted?

Allow the sealed vial to reach room temperature before breaking the seal, which prevents condensation drawing moisture into the cake. Add bacteriostatic water slowly down the inside wall rather than directly onto the powder, then swirl gently until clear. Do not shake: agitation shears peptide chains. The volume added sets the working concentration, so calculate it before opening anything.
